On June 10, Midwestern students and faculty will host 26 high-achieving high school students on campus who want to become healthcare professionals. The day is part of the Future Doctors Institute, one of three new camps run by neighboring .

As part of the four-day medical camp, students will experience campus life and learn about basic sciences, research, team building, medical innovation, and more.  On one of the days, they will take a charter bus to the University for an entire day of hands-on activities to help them learn about the clinical training and daily lives of professionals from many different healthcare careers.

Morning activities will include learning to perform patient physical exams and practicing suturing at the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center, along with participating in a mock emergency response scenario. Students will also visit the Anatomy Lab to experience prosections of both human and animal species. During lunch, they will interact with a panel of students sharing their journeys to professional school, and after lunch, they will learn about osteopathic medicine and try their hands at using ultrasound machines to diagnose patients. At the dental simulation lab, they will drill teeth and practice dental dexterity skills, and then wrap up the day in the pharmacy lab to try compounding and discover the many career options available in the field of pharmacy.

More than 30 Midwestern students and faculty will welcome the group to campus on June 10. On June 11, another contingent from Midwestern will head down the road to ASU West Valley Campus to present additional workshops on Admissions Interviewing and Personal Statement Writing, as well as the Wonderful World of Veterinary Medicine.

We are thrilled to be a sponsor for this new outreach program at ASU West Valley Campus!
